Fly Fishing Rods

If you like to fly fish there are many different fly fishing rods available today. The various types are made for different types of fishing.

There are three main types of fly rods available, they are the; Bamboo, graphite, and fibreglass.

• Bamboo fly rod- These are known as the traditional fly rods. They were one of the very first fly rods made, and since they are still being used, they must work well. They are made by using thin strips of bamboo, gluing them together, and forming a hexagon shape blank. Nowadays, bamboo fly fishing rods are made of better quality with added plastics and various other materials to protect the fly rod, and also prevent the fly rods for suffering a permanent case of the bends.

Bamboo fly fishing rods are slow to act, and they are much heavier than the lightweight graphite and fibreglass fly rods that can be found today. Even though this is true, and bamboo rods are quite expensive, they are still considered the best fly rods out there, most especially for people who fish for trout on light tippets.

• Fibreglass fly rod- They have many things that make them stand out. The first thing is that they are much cheaper than other type of fly rods out there on the market. The next thing is, they are almost completely unbreakable. They can withstand cold, water, sun, and heat. The next thing is that they are exceptionally light in weight, but remain extremely strong. The chances of a fish breaking a fly rod that is made of fibreglass is slim, but if you step on one a certain way, they will break.

The core of a fibreglass rod is hollow, and they are constructed by wrapping cloth that contains fibreglass fibres around a dowel. Using an oven that is pressurized, they are baked at a very high temperature. They are harder to find than they once were, because graphite rods are now here, and most people pick them over fibreglass rods.

• Graphite fly rod- They are the very newest type of fly fishing rods available, although they have been around for a few years now. They are also the very most popular of all fly fishing rods. There are various types of graphite that is used in graphite fly fishing rods, and they are continually coming out with even more types.

The main difference between different types of graphite is the weight. Some graphite is heavier in weight than others are. In most cases, the lighter the rod, the more expensive it is. There is a wide range of prices when searching for graphite fly fishing rods. The cheaper ones will often weigh much more than the lighter ones, sometimes up to twice as much. In addition, many of the cheaper rods have a reel that is made of poor quality reel seats, wrappings, and guides.

If you purchase a graphite rod that is cheap, you will probably be replacing it is no time. Even though good graphite fly rods are much more costly than fibreglass fly rods, they are still the most popular. The main reason for this is that graphite fly rods are much lighter in weight than fibreglass fly fishing rods, and allow for more longer and accurate casts as well. They will also last a long time.
