Fishing Rod and Reel

More often than not, using one combination of fishing rod and reel is enough for many types of fishing methods. On the other hand, for some types of fishing, you may need to use a special combination of fishing rod and reel. Say, for casting a tiny and weightless dry fly, you may need fly fishing tackle or a heavy duty reel for casting large saltwater lures.

There are different reels for different fishing conditions, but it may not be possible that not all fishermen can afford too much tackle although having at least a single backup rig can be helpful. Some anglers can afford to carry at least 4 or more different rods for different types of fish. Consequently, there are several types of combinations for fishing rod and reel including spinning, spin-casting, fly-casting, bait-casting, and trolling.

The spinning combo is designed for casting long distances and popular among anglers because of its versatility and backlash-free ability. On the other hand, if you are a beginner in fishing, you might experience a little difficulty when it comes to line snarling, which usually occurs behind the spool.

The spin-casting combo is almost the same as the spinning combo although there is lesser tangling due to the close-faced reels. More so, it is easier to cast because it has a push button release. However, this combo is only preferable for short distance casting because it produces more friction.

The fly-casting fishing rod and reel combo is common utilized for line storage. The rods are available in different lengths ranging from 7.5 feet to 9 feet. Most designs of fly rods are built for flexing from the tip to the butt, which helps in picking up long distances for casting.

The bait-casting combo is the most accurate of all fishing rod and reel combination. Backlashes are least likely to occur since the rods are stiffer as compared to spinning rods.

Finally, the trolling combo is very similar to bait-casting although the trolling rigs are commonly utilized for large water formations due to heaviness. The trolling reels are rugged and cheaper than the reels of bait-casting combo.

Since fishing rods are available in different designs, it is necessary to determine the basic qualities prior to choosing one. More so, fishing rods are made out of different materials such as fiberglass, graphite, boron, and bamboo. Fishing rods made of fiberglass are affordable, durable, and most suited for many types of fishing. Fishing rods made of graphite is stronger as compared to fiberglass; however, they are more expensive.

Boron fishing rods is more sensitive as compared to graphite but costs more.

Finally, bamboo fishing rods are usually used for manufacturing custom-made rods and have lesser power as compared to other types of fishing rods.

It is important that you choose the right combination for your fishing rod and reel so that you are able to achieve success in your fishing endeavor. It is advisable to shop around and determine which combination works best for you while satisfying your needs and preferences.
